Indy10 Community Meeting: Divest from Jails, Invest in People
At this event, the No New Jail Coalition will present its reasons for opposing Mayor Hogsett's proposed $650 million 'justice campus' project, and on alternative uses of that money that would help poor communities in Indianapolis, including schools, food access, community control of development, and mental healthcare.
The reasoning behind the expansion of the prison system represented by Hogsett's proposal will also be debunked, and alternative solutions to the problem of jail over crowding discussed.
The purpose of the event is to inform Indianapolis community members of the threats posed by the new jail, and to recruit people to help us stop it and divert the funding into projects that are beneficial to our communities.
